Never Forget

Photographer Tom Cockram shines a spotlight on the survivors and the bereaved in new exhibition with Grenfell United

Over two years have passed since the Grenfell Tower tragedy took place, but the fight for justice continues. Many are still displaced, liable bodies are still evading consequences, and health and safety standards are still being carelessly flouted across the country. A recent government report shows that there remain 338 buildings wrapped in the same kind of cladding as that found at Grenfell Tower.

Cockram has been working on the project over the past year, photographing intimate, monochrome portraits of those most closely affected by the tragedy and the subsequent fallout. Alongside the exhibition, there will also be a handful of talks and events, including photography workshops for the Grenfell community and a screening of revelatory film Failed By The State, which features members of the local area detailing their experience of gentrification and the role the authorities play.

The exhibition, Never Forget Grenfell, is a collaborative effort between Cockram and Grenfell United, a group of survivors and bereaved families from the Grenfell Tower. The group’s Vice-Chair, Karim Mussilhy, said: “Grenfell was filled with amazing people, a true community with people from all walks of life who looked out for each other. Since the fire that community has grown stronger as bereaved, survivors and neighbours near and far have come together to support each other. We hope this exhibition will show Londoners that our community is strong, dignified and united.”

Firefox rebrand

Firefox’s logo featuring a fox with a flamelike tail wrapped around a globe has become instantly recognisable over the years. Developed by internet advocacy and software group Mozilla in the early Noughties, it is perhaps best known for its open source, free to use web browser.

Now, Firefox’s identity has been given an update as Mozilla unveils its new parent brand, with the aim of showing that its role goes beyond just its web browser function.

The design has been led by Ramotion Creative Director Michael Chu in collaboration with Firefox, and sees a more streamlined version of the circular fox tail symbol.

A series of icons have also been designed for the rest of Firefox’s offering, such as its encrypted file sharing service Firefox Send, and privacy-focused mobile browser Firefox Focus.

Sainsbury 150th advert

One of the oldest supermarket chains still running today, Sainsbury’s is toasting its 150th anniversary with a celebratory ad made in partnership with Wieden+Kennedy London. While Sainsbury’s Christmas spot fell a little flat and got lost among similar adverts telling similar stories, its anniversary film stands out as a vibrant celebration of a historic brand.

The Tide

Apparently London’s Greenwich peninsula — hitherto known to most as the spot where you can literally straddle time with one foot either side of the Meridian Line, or as the Millennium Dome-turned O2 Arena behemoth — is now “London’s new creative neighbourhood.”

That’s according to Droga5, which recently took on the task of creating the visual identity and campaign assets for the area’s new outdoor destination: The Tide.

As well as creating the destination’s visual identity, Droga5 was responsible for its naming. The agency says it was inspired by the site’s “unique position on the bank of the River Thames, which offers a new view of London over the water”, as well as the the idea of change to underscore both the movements of the river and the different sections of The Tide’s pathway.

The identity centres on a kinetic logo which, like the name, nods to the fluid nature of The Tide. Using its animated version as a starting point, the designs use a shimmery looping strip that morphs and twists into various formations throughout the branding’s applications.

Ikea’s ad campaign take on the inevitable stresses of shopping

The retailer has collaborated with Mother and the Layzell Bros on a series of comic animations which demonstrate how they can take care of all the things that might make us hate hitting the shops.
